1. In your group of three, decide who will be the Reporter, the Union Soldier, and the Civilian.

2. The Reporter’s job is to research what it was like to be working for a newspaper during the time of the Civil War and write an article based upon the conversation. The article needs to be a minimum of two pages and should include at least one photograph.

3. The Union Soldier’s job is to locate first-hand accounts by soldiers and military personnel who were at the Battle of Gettysburg. Along with the Civilian, the Union Soldier will co-write a script for a ten-minute re-enactment of the conversation that could have taken place on July 5, 1863.

4. The Civilian will research how average citizens witnessed the Battle of Gettysburg and how they were affected by the Civil War. Again, the Civilian will co-write the script with the Union Soldier.

5. Your group may use any media (books or electronic sources) that are available. If possible, interview a person who is involved in Civil War re-enactments to get his or her perspective.
